Carnegie Classrooms are STEAM based workshops presented in the classroom that infuse the arts into multiple disciplines by making authentic connections to content standards. Led by professional teaching artists, Carnegie Classrooms encourage student understanding, higher order thinking skills, problem solving, and a deeper appreciation of the arts while helping teachers balance core curricula being studied. Upon selecting a specific workshop, Carnegie Hall will supply the grade specific Next Generation Standards for that Carnegie Classroom. The classroom teacher will make the teaching artist aware of any particular classroom goals when confirming a Carnegie Classrooms workshop. The teaching artist will work with the classroom teacher to accommodate lessons in progress. As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, Classes & Workshops are offered in the spring and fall to enlighten and inspire learners of all ages. These unique learning opportunities are taught primarily in a small group setting at Carnegie Hall. The maximum number of students is set by the instructor. Because space is limited, we recommend registering early.

Carnegie Hall proudly presents Creative Youth, the annual juried art show for Greenbrier County students in grades 4-12. This exhibit is displayed during the month of March. Children from public, private and home schools submit their work for this juried art exhibit. Judging Student artwork will be judged by a panel of three judges selected by Carnegie Hall. The judging is based on category and grade. Grades 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12 are judged separately. Inspiring Astronomy and Earth Science Presentations - Carnegie’s portable Cosmodome Planetarium/Theater can easily demonstrate how Earth’s spin and tilt influence the apparent motions of celestial objects we see in the sky above. Accurate simulations inside the dome help students become acquainted with the lockstep progression of the basic constellations, the changing phases of Earth’s Moon, and the significance stars play in our understanding of just “where” and “when” we are in this expansive Universe. With 21st century software, the Cosmodome can also be used as a theater for full-dome or HD movies on any subject. NOTE: This giant dome is wheelchair/ADA accessible and accommodates up to 26 students. (The Cosmodome requires a room with at least a 26-foot diameter and 12-foot ceilings). For rising K - 7th graders Kids' College is an opportunity to expand learning in and through the arts in a safe, nurturing environment. A primary objective of Kids' College is to instill a lifelong love of learning through the arts for its participants. Students have the chance to "try-out" different art forms at Kids' College; they identify new skills within themselves, boosting self-esteem. At Carnegie Kids' College there is little risk for failure, due to the support mechanisms in place - teaching artists, volunteers, peers, and administration.

Link Up shares the educational expertise and resources of Carnegie Hall (NY) with arts organizations and school districts throughout the United States. Carnegie Hall (WV) and The Weill Music Institute of Carnegie Hall collaborate to bring this exciting program to West Virginia schoolchildren. Using the Link Up curriculum, 5th grade students engage in interdisciplinary classroom instruction to increase performing, creating and listening skills through a series of sequentially “linked” activities, which include a culminating concert in the spring. Throughout the concert, the musical concepts that the students have studied during the year are demonstrated, and students are given the opportunity to play a recorder and sing along with an orchestra. All music teachers participate in professional development workshop, offered in the fall. Curriculum support materials are provided for students and teachers by Weill Music Institute. Raku; noun - Japanese hand-modeled pottery that is fired at a low temperature and rapidly cooled: a process by which pottery is fired at a relatively low temperature (1850 degrees!) and then moved while hot to a closed container with combustible materials (such as paper or sawdust) that ignite and cause a reaction creating colors and patterns in the pottery's surface. Carnegie Hall is pleased to offer the return of our one-of-a-kind Raku clay workshop for special events and live demonstrations. The Raku traveling kiln program is a dynamic and exciting experience for the classroom! An experienced Teaching Artist will perform a live firing as a cultural arts demonstration, or tailor the event for a more hands-on workshop opportunity. Spotlight on Schools gives students unique opportunities to see, feel, hear and experience the performing arts. The series presented by Greenbrier County Schools, in partnership with Carnegie Hall, presents culturally-diverse artists. The Education and Artistic Directors of Carnegie Hall work in partnership with the Elementary Education Director of the Greenbrier County schools to present a varied and well-rounded artistic program for the students.
